The frosty days of April will soon end, as a milder weather period is on the horizon. After a chilly start with wintry influences, there are signs of a rise in temperatures that could even bring summery feelings. Here is a look at the upcoming weather development.
Rising temperatures in sight
The coming days promise gradually warmer temperatures and drier weather. There will be more sunshine at the weekend, while the morning high fog and snow cover in the mountains will remind us of last winter. With southerly foehn winds, temperatures will rise to 20 degrees on Saturday, with up to 24 degrees possible on Sunday. However, there may be isolated rain or snow showers at higher altitudes.
There are signs of a further rise in temperatures in the coming week, meaning that April could even end in summer in many places. However, humidity could increase, accompanied by occasional showers.
Prospects after 1 May
It is still uncertain whether the warm and sunny weather will continue after 1 May. Areas of low pressure from the Atlantic could change the weather and cause temperatures to drop again.
First May forecast for Austria
According to initial forecasts, Austria can expect average temperatures of 10 to 19 degrees in May. It will be milder, but current initial forecasts do not predict a continuous May summer.
The reason is that half of May is expected to be rainy. Around 8 to 15 days of rain are expected, but these will generally only be localized and short downpours, not storms with much precipitation. The chances are, therefore, still good that the rain in May will not be a major disruptive factor. However, the forecasts are very early and could change accordingly.
